Pas dan zullen de files korter zijn, en kunnen we investeren in oplossingen voor lawaaihinder en luchtvervuiling."

"Als je dat consequent toepast krijg je een transportsysteem dat efficiënter wordt en deels zal overschakelen naar alternatieve en duurzamere transportmiddelen zoals binnenvaart en spoor. Het wordt een variabel systeem, waarbij transport tijdens de daluren goedkoper wordt dan tijdens de spitsuren, en nieuwe, milieuvriendelijke vrachtwagens minder tol betalen dan de oudere, meer vervuilende vrachtwagens. Op die manier dwing je dat ook af. Het Europees Parlement heeft op mijn voorstel al in maart een standpunt ingenomen, maar de bal ligt nu in het kamp van de lidstaten die zeer verdeeld zijn en maar niet tot conclusies kunnen komen. Nochtans is het voordeel voor het milieu én voor de files niet te onderschatten."
Concreet vraagt El Khadraoui de snelle goedkeuring van de richtlijn door de lidstaten. En dan moet België, liefst ism Nederland versneld werk maken van de toepassing ervan. "Vooral in België zou zo'n taks erg zinnig zijn. Nu draaien we als transitland op voor alle kosten van het voorbijrijdend vrachtverkeer.
