Vandaag nog eens voor de klas gestaan. Ik doe dat nu al enkele jaren. Bij zesdejaars geef ik, in het kader van de geschiedenislessen, een gastcollege over Europa. En da's altijd heel leuk. Zowel voor de leerlingen als voor mij. Het is een leuke manier om Europa 'dichter bij de mensen' te brengen en om te horen hoe jongeren over Europa denken.
Vandaag had ik met één van de leerlingen een discussie over de toetreding van Turkije tot de Europese Unie. Hij was tegen, ik ben voor. Het was niet de bedoeling om elkaar te overtuigen van ons standpunt, maar 't is altijd interessant om een andere mening te horen.
Ik doe dat wel graag zo lesgeven. En denken dat dat met mijn opleiding geschiedenis mijn job had kunnen zijn. Dan toch liever in de politiek. In plaats van bezig te zijn met het verleden, mag ik nu meewerken aan de toekomst. En dat vind ik net iets uitdagender.
